Houston and Elsewhere, Fall 1998

Starting my new job, it was time to make the big move to Houston. Ahh, Houston.

Visitors seem to think of tumbleweeds and dry deserts when they think of Texas. Well, that's not Houston. I got stuck in my car while waiting out a storm and took these.

Downtown Houston is actually quite pretty at night. I'm also thrilled to have the Angelika Film Center for `art' flicks. It's the same as the Angelika in the West Village, Manhattan, but they've got a whole lot more space.

Of course, any Web page about Houston wouldn't be complete without talking about Houston traffic and how flat the place is. Bicyclists use the overpasses for hill training. Also below is a picture of myself and my friend Marty at his house in Maryland. Here's the longer story.

Houstonians seem to take their running seriously. Perhaps too seriously. We went out to root for Andrea during the Houston Marathon. Here she is at the 22 mile mark.

By virtue of being a computer kind of guy, I still manage to find plenty of excuses to get out to California and my alma mater, U.C. Berkeley. For the first time, I actually went up to the top of the Campanile and poked around. The crying bear is part of a WWII memorial at the base of the tower.

And, it's always important to stop by and see old friends. Katherine is now a big whig at FastCompany Magazine. I guess I've known MarkE and Rachel since my freshman year. I met Raven at Netscape, although she's since escaped to greener pastures.
