Owlnet

PhD students usually get two computer accounts, one on the CS network and one on Owlnet. Typically, students use the Owlnet account for course work and the CS account for email, news, and writing papers. Doing coursework on the CS research network is prohibited. Most of the research groups have their own machines that should be used for computationally intensive jobs. A computing account is available through Owlnet, which is a network of workstations for students at Rice. To sign up for an Owlnet account, go to the help desk in the Mudd Building, and ask for directions on getting an account. They will also tell you where the Owlnet labs are located. Refer to section 3.4 for information on the CS network.
